Bvlgari announces a new hotel in Rome. And it’s a beaut.
Bvlgari – don’t mind if we do! – are coming home with a new, showstopping hotel, set to open in 2022 in Rome’s Campo Marzio neighbourhood. The Bvlgari Hotel Roma is taking over a mammoth rationalist building by Vittoria Ballio Morpurgo in Piazza Augusto Imperatore, which couldn’t be handier for all your tourist box-ticking; Ara Pacis and the Mausoleum of Augustus are right there, opposite the hotel, a little further and you’re at the Spanish Steps, and the bouji Prati neighbourhood is a short walk the other way, over the Tiber. Rome’s swishiest shopping streets – including Via Condotti, home to the Bvlgari flagship seeing as you mention it, are minutes away, even in those shoes.
As per with a Bvlgari hotel, Italian design practice Antonia Citterio Patricia Viel are in charge of the architectural wizardry and interiors, and the mostly-suite hotel will be served by Il Ristorante - headed up by Michelin-starred Niko Romito - and The Bvlgari Bar, both located at the top of the hotel so you can suck in those views. Throw in a spa, indoor swimming pool, hi-tech gym and – because this is Bvlgari – a Reading Room with a collection of precious tomes dedicated to the history of jewellery, and you’ve got Rome’s slinkiest, shiniest, sexiest new hotel. There’s even an inscription on the hotel’s façade that reads, ‘This is the place where the Emperor Augustus’ soul flies through the air.’ So long as he’s wearing the right sandals.
