Cheers, thanks a lot, love Diana.

What did you achieve over lockdown? Some scones? Painting the back bedroom? A waistline under 36”? In the case of the most successful female singer of all time (don’t take our word for it, take the Guinness Book of World Records’), it was an album of thanks. Called *checks notes* Thank You.

But then she did have an in-house recording studio and a hotline to some of the hottest producers in all Her Majesty’s United States of America, people who have worked with Beyoncé and Ariana Grande, you know, quite big names. The result? The first new Ms Ross material in more than 20 years, cunningly timed to be ready for when she reschedules her UK tour.

Will there be hair, you ask. Of course! Will there be wind machines? It’s what wind machines were invented for! And will there be great songs? Well, we think so going off the lead single built around a riff from Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell’s You’re All I Need To Get By, which she actually covered on her first solo album (well, we are music journalists. We do know our stuff). Little breathy spoken bits, a catchy chorus and a very feel-good, erm, feel. You can almost imagine her reaching out and touching.

‘This collection of songs is my gift to you with appreciation and love,’ says Diana, in a statement that could almost have been written for a press release. And when is that lead single out? Today! Talk about leave it till the last minute! Thank You. No, thank you!
