Nobu brings its fancy to Marylebone’s Portman Square

It’s hard to imagine how regular old, food-eating, toilet-going Robert De Niro finds the time to dunk a crunch biscuit into a nice cup of tea, what with his glittering Hollywood career, adverts for Warburtons bagels and heading up a global hotel and restaurant empire alongside Nobu Matsuhisa and Meir Teper. Yet someway, somehow he gets it all done while still finding time for the odd turn on the Graham Norton Show.

And he’s gone and notched another hotel onto his Nobu bedpost, this time in Marylebone’s Portman Square. And it’s a slinky, shiny whopper of a very slick thing. Another collaboration between the Nobu group and L+R Hotels (they rustled up Nobu Hotel Ibiza Bay and Nobu Monte Carlo together), Nobu London Portman Square (try saying that with a mouthful of miso black cod) has 249 rooms, a 600-person ballroom, gym and wellness centre plus the iconic Nobu on Berkeley Street has upped sticks and moved on in. And it’s all been made Japanese-pretty on the inside by David Collins, while Make has sprinkled its magic over some of the sturdier architectural stuff.

Rates from £345. Bookings are now being taken for stays from November.
