Stay at Manchester’s hottest new hotel, (maybe) win a fancy trip to NYC
Manchester’s really upped its hotel game these last few years. The glittering Gotham, in that gorgeous, Deco Lutyens building on King Street, Gary Neville and Ryan Giggs’ fancy-plus-all-the-trimmings Stock Exchange five minutes down the road, The Lowry, which has just been nipped and tucked and the erstwhile Principal, now sucked into the slick Kimpton empire and renamed Kimpton Clocktower (they do a happy wine hour every day in all their hotels. Hello 5pm!). And now Manchester’s glorious gay village has gone and got its very own slice of hip hotel action, Hotel Brooklyn, from the people who brought us Gotham so they know their lemons. And what lovely lemons they are. Open, inviting, stylings of big, bright, breezy NYC lofts (the clue’s in the name) with a massive bleachers-style lobby segueing into an open-plan kitchen serving up-end diner-style nosh (including some impressive vegan options, in case you think it’s all going to be alpha meeeeat), a sexy penthouse bar with views over the Village (Canal Street is stumbling/crawling/however-you’re-rolling distance away. Can you imagine Pride?) and rooms with all the right quirk. And, lark, they’ve gone and announced their reopening, 21st August. And, as we stare into those headlights known in the business as a post-Covid world, the cheeses at Hotel Brooklyn have added a little balm; book a stay between now and Thanksgiving (26th November in old money) and you’ll be in with a chance of winning a five-night stay in New York next spring, flights and all.
