Truman Capote. The biggest little gay bitch in history? Let’s find out...

The Capote Tapes.png

Truman Capote. Naughty boy, great writer and - most importantly - inspiration for Beverley Leslie on Will & Grace. Wouldn’t you like to know more about someone like that? Well, now you can thanks to a handy little documentary featuring the voices of those who actually knew him from André Leon Talley through Norman Mailer to Lauren Bacall. Oh and unheard interviews from tapes done by George Plimpton who wrote his biography.

It’s a rags-to-riches story of the little gay from the South who wound up hanging with the big guns of high society, from Jackie O on up. Having written history-making books like Breakfast at Tiffany’s and In Cold Blood, Truman ended up biting the hand that had lavishly fed him in Answered Prayers, a way-too-thinly veiled account of the misdemeanours of the rich and famous, most of whom were close friends.

Featuring footage from his famous Black and White Ball (where he danced with best friend Marilyn Monroe), from his many TV appearances, from nights out at Studio 54, where he hung out with the likes of Miss Diana Ross and gossip so delicious we’re thinking of having it for Christmas dinner, it’s certainly something to look forward to for 2021.

The Capote Tapes will be available at altitude.film and on all digital platforms across the UK and Ireland from 29 January
