The Drive-In

Drive-in-cinema.jpg

For those of us with a car and perhaps even people to fill it, news of a peripatetic (some of us spent lockdown watching re-runs of Call My Bluff) drive-in cinema this summer will have you reaching for your phony-ponies (don’t forget the ribbon!) and leather biker jackets before you’ve had time so say, ‘Oh, Sandy!’ Taking its cue from ye olde American drive-in theatres, @The DriveIn is an ‘exciting take on the classic drive-in experience’, if your idea of exciting is 80s classics and blockbusters from the last decade, preceded by tip-top showbiz entertainment (stand-up comedy, silent disco, perhaps even a spot of bingo), all washed down by refreshments served by cater-waiters risking life and dignity on roller-skates. And because of, you know, ‘Rona, it’ll all be done with health and safety in mind (no cash transactions, socially-distanced wheels, mobile app ordering, very clever wireless audio-sync something or other) plus 10 slots per show are being given to key workers for free. It’s as American as *checks notes* apple pie, it’ll cost you £35 per car (penny-pricewise if yours is an SUV) and it’s popping up in a city near you for six whole shows sometime between July and September. Twice in London, seeing as you ask. Well, there are more of us.

Tickets for @The DriveIn go on sale May 27, waiting lists open now.
